The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung EU Office has the pleasure of inviting you to a roundtable discussion on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s path towards the European Union, one month ahead of the general elections which will be held at the beginning of October. Voters will elect the national Presidency and House of Representatives, as well as the Presidents and legislatures of the two entities, the Federation and the Republika Srpska. The outcome of these elections will be crucial for the country’s future direction and certain reform projects addressing the needs and expectations of the citizens. Besides looking into the political dynamics in the run-up to the elections, we also want to take a deeper look at the field of social policy. The recent EU strategy for the Western Balkans stipulated a “new reinforced social dimension for the Western Balkans”. Against this background we want to take a look at the reform needs in this field for the next government, as well as the social consequences of the previous, more economy-focussed, reform initiatives in the context of the reform agenda.
