China’s Belt and Road Initiative

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is the most far-reaching international project of the People‘s Republic of China since its founding in 1949. Some states received the BRI positively, thinking that they will economically profit from the investments, and other states – among them some members of the EU – are quiet sceptical about the new strategy, arguing mostly that it is controversial to their own interests. Which impacts could the BRI have on the EU and its strategies pursued in the concerned regions? And how should the EU react?
Within a series of publications of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) and Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) on these issues, the new policy brief summarizes the main findings the two previous FES-SIPRI reports and presents implications and recommendations for the EU.
