Dialogue Programme on the Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Tunisia (ALECA)
Negotiations for a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) between the EU and Tunisia were launched in October 2015. The DCFTA will build on the existing EU-Tunisia Association Agreement, which entered into force in 1998 and created a free trade area between the EU and Tunisia. Current discussions cover a wide range of issues including agriculture, services and sustainable development. The negotiation of a DCFTA may represent an opportunity for some sectors. Nevertheless, an assessment of the existing agreement and an impact assessment of the DCFTA are necessary in order to make sure that future trade relations between the EU and Tunisia will be fair and respect the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In order to analyse the progress of the negotiations and the impact of the agreement, a delegation from Tunisia composed of representatives of trade unions, universities, ministries and NGOs will attend this closed dialogue programme in Brussels organized by the FES EU Office.
