The trade relations between China and the United States are currently experiencing a severe crisis. Beyond the tangible economic fallout by mutually imposed tariffs and the uncertain outcome of their trade negotiations these tensions challenge the multilateral trade order of the past decades. Furthermore, the looming WTO blockade and disputes about Huawei’s 5G technology are likely to further fuel the tensions.

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung EU Office organises an expert roundtable on the enduring US-China trade conflict and its repercussions on the European Union. Our guests will examine costs and possible solutions of this conflict. They will also discuss how the EU needs to position itself as a global trade actor in the competition between the United States and China.
