Shaping a progressive future – Democracy in Europe

Change and adaptation to new developments have led our societies and economies to progress and prosperity. They are essential conditions for our peaceful coexistence in Europe. However, change is often disruptive, shifting powers and increasing inequality. This may threaten social peace and hamper economic development. A clear regulatory framework and an active state are needed to avoid market failure and empower people and economic actors in change. The European Union, with its monetary union and internal market, plays a key role in shaping the conditions for this, be it in the areas of digitisation, sustainability, climate, employment or finance and investment.
The FES EU-Office aims at strengthening the European economic and social model with resilient economies backed by broadly accessible diverse public goods, strong social security, active labour market policies and social partnership as stability factors, not least in global competition.
