Achieving a socially just, green and forward looking Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027

19.02.2020, 09h00-11h00 a.m., Thematic MFF-Workshop "For a stronger social Europe", European Parliament, room 01G369

The Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2021-2027 must set the direction of the European Union. In face of environmental, digital and demographical challenges, Europe needs a budget to foster investment bringing back prosperity, inclusiveness and sustainability to the European Union.

Margarida Marques, the European Parliament's co-rapporteur on the MFF, together with Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung EU office, organize a series of technical workshops under the title “Achieving a socially just, green and forward looking Multiannual Financial Framework 2021 - 2027” to feed in the discussions of the current MFF negotiations. It will be an opportunity to have the relevant information and points of view of the different stakeholders in the ongoing discussions.

For our next workshop on the MFF and social Europe on 19 February 2020 we are pleased to annonce the following speakers:

  • Margarida Marques, Member of the European Parliament, co-rapporteur on the MFF
  • László Andor, Secretary General of the Foundation for European Progressive Studies; Former Commissioner of Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (2010-2014)
  • Ana Carla Pereira, Employment and Social Affairs Adviser to Commissioner Nicolas Schmit, European Commission
  • Brando Benifei, Member of the European Parliament, shadow rapporteur on the ESF+
  • Francesco Corti, Researcher at the University of Milan and Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS)

Together we will explore a series of questions and issues:

--> How the EU and Member States should use and combine the financial resources to deliver on the European Pillar of Social Rights?

--> How to boost social investment: the use of the different EU funds

--> Investment in human capital and intangibles to support the transition to a new future of work (skills, life-long learning, research and innovation)

--> Investing in Transition: how the next MFF (including ESF+) can address the challenges of digital revolution, globalisation and transition to a neutral-carbon economy

--> Investing in People: Child Guarantee and European Unemployment Reinsurance Scheme

--> The role of social dialogue, social economy and partnership principle

--> EU's economic governance: how can the (revision) fiscal framework promote social investment?

--> European Semester: how to address social imbalances in the European semester cycle?
