Online policy dialogue: War in Lebanon - political impact of a regional war

The war in Iran risks further destabilising the entire region. Lebanon is heavily affected, yet developments there have received little attention. Join our webinar to discuss what the latest escalation means for the country.

Lebanon has become increasingly entangled in the regional confrontation linked to the war in Iran. Israel has been conducting massive airstrikes across the country, targeting Hezbollah positions but also multiple areas including Beirut, southern Lebanon, and the Bekaa Valley.

Hezbollah has launched missiles and drone attacks on Israel in support of Tehran, further escalating the conflict. Despite the severity of the situation and the scale of the fighting inside Lebanon, developments there have received relatively little attention in the broader debate on the war.

The EU calls for diplomacy and a return to the ceasefire offer as the best chance of preventing Lebanon from splipping further into chaos.

Online policy dialogue

To discuss and analyse the implications of the war in Iran for Lebanon, the FES EU Office and FES Lebanon invite you to an online policy dialogue on Wednesday 18 March, 13:30 - 14:30, via Zoom.

We bring together regional voices and EU perspectives to assess possible courses of action for Lebanon and the European Union. The exchange will provide an overview of the current situation, examine how the war may evolve, and consider possible pathways toward ending the conflict. We will also address potential political, diplomatic, and humanitarian responses available to the EU.

Input by:
