Science meets European Politics 2018

09. - 10.04.2018, Closed Dialogue Programme

The recent rise of challenges that require collective action by the EU member states, such as the Euro and financial crisis in 2008, migration or populism, has moved Europe to the centre of national political debates and agendas. In light of such developments, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung EU Office in cooperation with the FES Unit for Scholarship Programmes has started an annual programme named “Science meets European Politics”. German academics will be brought together with representatives of European institutions, think thanks and NGOs. That way, the participants gain a deeper understanding of processes on the European level and the European perspective on current issues, enabling them to take into account the European dimension in their research and teaching. At the same time, they are able to establish a network in Brussels and to share and explain the German academic point of view on current topics. This year, a particular emphasis will be put on questions of the reform of the Eurozone, the Brexit-negotiations, democracy, migration and recent developments in the European defence policy.
