Conference: After the Ukraine war - What place for Russia in Europe?

Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine has fundamentally changed the nature of relations between Moscow and Western capitals. Whereas before the war many Western countries took pains to treat Russia's security concerns as legitimate and important, today they are steeling themselves for a prolonged and unambiguous confrontation. But although Russia's initial failed war aims have caused many to question the true caliber of Russian power, it is undeniable that the country will retain a large stake in the European security system upon the war's end. This raises the question of how transatlantic allies can deepen their cooperation today in a fashion that leaves open Russia's eventual "return to Europe" over the medium-to-long term.

As part of the project "Euro-Atlantic Triangle" in partnership with CEPS, we are pleased to invite you to the in-person conference "After the Ukraine war: What place for Russia in Europe?". It will take place on 14 September from 17:30 - 18:45 (CET) in the CEPS premises and will be followed by a reception.

The "Euro-Atlantic Triangle" project explores the extent to which it is still possible to "square the triangle" of fostering deeper NATO-EU cooperation, enhancing the EU's strategic autonomy, and finding some sort of place for Russia in Europe over the longer term. It was launched in the context of discussions over the EU's Strategic Compass and NATO's Strategic Concept. The project will run through Spring 2023. For more information, click here or see below.
