Breaking myths about the Istanbul Convention on violence against women
REGISTRATION IS CLOSED
To date, 18 member states of the Council of Europe have not yet ratified the Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (commonly known as the Istanbul Convention). Among them are 12 EU member states, some of which fear external interference in internal competencies as well as knock-on effects on a broad range of domestic policies coming with the ratification of this Convention. In order to tackle these myths and clarify what precisely this Convention is about, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung EU Office in cooperation with MEP Maria Noichl (S&D) want to seize this opportunity to raise awareness about this topical issue and advocate for ratification by all signatories.
In the Panel Discussion, we aim to bring together experts and representatives from different institutions in order to bring clarity to the ongoing controversies and to find ways in which to increase the number of ratifications of the Istanbul Convention.
