Colombia and Venezuela, countries forever entwined? Security Challenges and Expectations on the Role of the European Union

17,19,24/11/2020, Online Series, 16h00 – 18h00

Colombia and Venezuela are closely linked: not only by a common border of 2219 kilometres, their colonial past and having been one country, but also by the current political and economic challenges in a closely inter linked neighbourhood. The European Union is active in both countries: offering humanitarian aid and providing diplomatic initiatives, but so far its initiatives have not brought about lasting solutions. In addition, at the present time, measures to deal with the COVID 19 pandemic are absorbing much of EU’s effort. This series of online seminars explores how to support the EU efforts to improve the situation in this part of the Andean region by providing information and recommendations for appropriate EU action. Our series will comprise of the following three events:

17 November, 16:00 – 18:00 (via Zoom)
Colombia and Venezuela: Interlocked conflicts and their geopolitical context

19 November, 16:00 – 18:00 (via Zoom)
Beyond the limits of the border – New and old actors in the border area

24 November, 16:00 – 18:00 (via Zoom)
Perspectives and Expectations – summary of policy recommendations from the previous seminars

You can register here for each event individually. Log-in details will be sent shortly before each event.
