Watch the recording now online!

The latest episode in the Social Europe Talk series supported by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung took place in the run-up to the the G20 finance ministers’ meeting on July 9th and 10th. Around the virtual table we discussed with:

  • Evelyn Regner, the member of the European Parliament who leads on this issue;
  • Prof Jayati Ghosh, a member of the Independent Commission on the Reform of International Corporate Taxation; and
  • Alex Cobham, chief executive of the Tax Justice Network.

The conversation reviewed the agreement at the latest G7 summit of rich countries in England, on partial taxation of multinationals where revenue is raised and on minimum global company taxation. How big are the loopholes and how adequate is the minimum proposed? It went on to discuss what stance is now needed going into the wider G20 meeting, given the tension between perspectives from the Global North and South.

The moderator was Robin Wilson, acting editor-in-chief of Social Europe.
