In cooperation with the digital media publisher Social Europe, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung EU Office organised a talk show on European Democracy in the European Parliament. This talk show forms part of a series of Social Europe Talks concerned with EU politics that our partner is producing regularly. This edition of Social Europe Talk deals with the topic of European democracy. The panel seeks to discuss the state of European democracy in times of political turmoil. It sheds light on the impact that current and past crises, such as the Eurozone crisis or the solidarity crisis, may have on democracy in the European Union. In what ways do they challenge the EU institutions' legitimacy? Does European democracy need reforms to enable adequate joint reactions to the crises?

Panelists
Sophie Heine, Senior Research Fellow, Egmont Royal Institute for International Relations
Ska Keller, Member of the European Parliament, Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance
Javi López, Member of the European Parliament, Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament
Uwe Optenhögel, Head of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung EU Office

The debate is hosted and moderated by Henning Meyer, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Social Europe.
