The Role of Domestic Advisory Groups in EU Trade Agreements

26.03.2021, Online Meeting from 9.00-10.00 (CET)

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) and Ghent University have conducted an in-depth evaluation and analysis of the work of Domestic Advisory Groups (DAGs) that have been established within the scope of EU trade agreements since 2011. Representing various branches of civil society the DAG members are to monitor the Trade and Sustainability Chapters.

The recent renewal of the DAGs offers a good opportunity to reflect on role, the working methods and the influence of the DAGs. With the study of Ghent University, we would like to contribute to this discussion which is already underway at various levels and in which some of you are involved. Do DAGs really fulfil their monitoring role? Do they have the capacity to influence policymaking? What have they achieved so far – and what not?

We would like to kindly invite you to a presentation of the findings and a discussion about how to improve CSO monitoring of EU trade agreements.

Speakers: Prof. Dr. Jan Orbie (Ghent University), Diana Potjomkina (Ghent University), Susanne Stollreiter (FES Berlin), Moderation: Daniela Iller (FES EU Office)

The meeting will be held in English. Interpretation English-Spanish will be provided.
