International Women's Day 2022

Advocating for gender equality is one of the core values of our work. On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, we would like to draw your attention to some of our recent publications and upcoming events.  

EU Care Atlas: Interactive Data Map 

Women in the EU earn annually 36,7% less than men. Many factors feed into this gap, the unequal distribution and lacking acknowledgement of paid and unpaid care work being one of the main causes. Discover the EU Care Atlas and find out more about the different dimensions of the Gender Earning Gap and the role of care deficits.  

The EU Care Atlas is part of the #Care4Care project by FEPS and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, launched in November 2019 to monitor the EU policy agenda through a gender lens and with a particular focus on its care dimensions. 

A Feminist European Green Deal

The concept of a just transition is rightly at the heart of the European Green Deal. Yet thus far it has been blind to the differing ways women and men are impacted by climate change. The new policy paper by FES, Women Engage for a Common Future and the European Environmental Bureau examines the climate policy measures of the European Green Deal from a feminist perspective. It focusses on solutions in the sectors with the highest emissions and provides policy recommendations for a gender-just and transformative implementation of the European Green Deal.

Feminist Futures in the digitalising world of work

Research demonstrates that in the emerging fourth industrial revolution, women are at disproportionate risk of being excluded from the economic dividends of frontier data and AI technologies and continuously relegated to the low value segments of global digital value chains in agriculture, manufacturing and services. Their lack of access to essential digital infrastructure -- connectivity, digital ID systems, digital payments architectures -- also intensifies their risk of exclusion from the social safety nets of the digital welfare state.  

Join our side event at CSW (15.03.2022, 13-14.30 h), organised by Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and IT for Change, to discuss how to ensure a feminist future of work and the policy and programmatic actions needed to achieve this at the global, national and local level.

Considering the entire economic picture?

In order to contribute to the Women7 process in the context of Germany’s G7 Presidency in 2022, FES launched a new blog series Considering the entire economic picture? in close cooperation with the Deutscher Frauenrat (National Council of German Women’s Organisations), responsible for implementing the Women7 process. The blog posts will focus on the W7’s key topics “Women’s Economic Empowerment” and “A gender equal COVID recovery” with the aim of offering a progressive and constructive contribution on the prospects for gender equality in the global economy and the world of work in the post-coronavirus era.
