Here to stay — Stories about arriving in Germany 28.06.2022, Movie Screening: Here to stay — Stories about arriving in Germany, 19h30, REGISTRATION IS CLOSED When more than 800,000 refugees came to Germany in 2015, they embodied what integration sceptics feared most: young men from Syria or Afghanistan, from Somalia, Eritrea or Iraq, who came to Germany alone. People projected both their real concerns and their crude racism onto them. At the same time, people talked much more about them than with them — and that is the starting point of this movie. Seven young men tell about arriving and settling down in Germany. They tell about funny and joyous moments, but also moments of deep despair, about their fears and how they dealt with them, about racism, and about love. The audience can experience the emotional turbulence that fleeing one's homeland almost always brings, and the stories vividly illustrate what we still need in the coming years for integration to succeed.
