Paris Peace Forum honours FES EU-project in Sudan 11.11.2022 The project “Strengthening Young Citizens in Sudan through Democratic Education” was selected as a best practice example for "Cooperation in Conflict" at the Paris Peace Forum. Students at the forefront of democratic change The EU-funded project “Strengthening Young Citizens in Sudan through Democratic Education” led by FES Sudan was presented at the Paris Peace Forum. Selected as a best practice example under the priority area “Cooperation in Conflict”, the project supports students in participating in political decision-making processes. In a two-year programme, FES Sudan cooperates with five universities in Khartoum and Port Sudan to help students understand democratic processes and the importance of their participation in the upcoming 2023 elections. The project hopes to particularly motivate first-time voters, who, while having been the major force behind the 2019 revolution, are still underrepresented in the transition and policy-making processes. Through workshops and studies, students are challenged to voice their demands in front of political parties and institutions and make the needs of future generations heard. The project was facilitated by the EU project team at the FES EU Office in Brussels.
