"PARTICIPE": EU-financed project in Madagascar 13.02.2023 A new EU-funded project in Antananarivo strives to motivate young people to build a more democratic future for Madagascar. Young voices against the erosion of democracy Madagascar's nation-building process is still incomplete and marked by a growing disinterest of its population as well as a lack of political vision for the country's future. A worrying trend sees the growing undermining of democratic participation and a palpable tension can be felt in the run-up to the elections due to the cost-of-living crisis. Against this backdrop, FES Madagascar has launched the new EU project “PARTICIPE: ‘Active citizenship for a more transparent, democratic and egalitarian electoral process in Madagascar’ in January 2023. This project aims to build a resilient, inclusive and democratic society by increasing the political participation of young people and women across five regions: Haute Matsiatra, Atsimo Andrefana, Atsinanana, Boeny and Analamanga. It also supports local political parties in making the upcoming elections scheduled for November more transparent and equal. The project, which is set to run for 18 months, was facilitated by our EU Projects team at the FES EU Office.
