“Raising Civil Voices”: EU-financed project in South Sudan
A peaceful and enabling environment in which inclusive and transparent democratic processes can take place
On 3 May, the FES South Sudan, together with the partners Community Empowerment Progress Organization (CEPO) and the Centre for Inclusive, Governance, Peace and Justice (CIGPJ), publicly launched the three-year EU-financed project “Raising Civil Voices” in Juba. It aims to promote a peaceful and enabling environment in which inclusive and transparent democratic processes can take place. The initiatives for the project will include - but not be limited to - civil society consultations and trainings, political engagement trainings for young women, civil and voter education trainings and radio shows, as well as national pre-election surveys.
The project launch was held at the Central Equatoria Women Union Compound and was attended by the executive director of CIGPJ, Jackline Nasiwa, the executive director of CEPO, Edmund Yakani, the Ambassador of the EUD to South Sudan, Timo Olkkonen and the National Minister of Youth and Sports, Joseph Akech Geng. The event also hosted a panel discussion featuring three key political players that focused on fostering inclusive democratic participation in South Sudan.
