Upcoming Events Effective Gender Budgeting in the next MFF: The Role of NRRPs 10.06.2026 Is gender equality still a priority for the EU? With political discussions on the MFF entering a decisive phase in Brussels, it is time to take a closer look. Join our online event on 25 June. Image: Creator: Ibrahim Boran | Elionas2 via canva.com Please note: This event will be held online via Zoom. The EU has treaty-based commitments to promote gender equality in all its activities. This is further underlined by the Roadmap for Women’s Rights or the Gender Equality Strategy, for example. However, against the background of the current MFF negotiations, it is unsure if these objectives and strategies will be sufficiently funded to be realised. This observation relates to the broader question of how gender equality compares to other objectives in the Commission’s MFF proposal. Our new Policy Brief “Effective Gender Budgeting in the next MFF – The Role of National and Regional Partnership Plans” takes these questions as a starting point. The author, Dr. Elisabeth Klatzer, states a clear shift away from social priorities and the EU’s gender equality commitments in the MFF proposal. While lip service is still paid to these objectives, gender equality is in fact treated as a mere principle to be “taken into account” rather than a goal to be funded and achieved. Are the National and Regional Partnership Plans a suitable vehicle to finance gender equality? Join the author Dr. Elisabeth Klatzer, co-founder of the European Gender Budgeting Network and university lecturer at the University of Reykjavik, Iceland, and Sabrina Repp, MEP, for the presentation of the Policy Brief’s key findings, including:How can the European Parliament ensure that the EU lives up to its own gender equality commitments in the next MFF?Are the National and Regional Partnership Plans a suitable vehicle to finance gender equality? What other parts of the MFF have to be considered in this context? How does the proposal differ from the current approach to gender equality? What long-term effects could the proposed MFF have on gender equality? Jonathan Schnock, Policy Officer for EU Economic Policy and Social Europe at the FES EU Office, will moderate the Q&A session.
