Upcoming Events Geofeminism and the WPS agenda 21.09.2026 With a new EU Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security on the horizon and amid a global anti-gender backlash, experts gather on 3 November to discuss the WPS state of play and alternative policy strategies going forward. Image: Creator: Shutterstock / FEPS The EU is expected to launch a new EU Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) next year. With far-right governments pushing an anti-gender agenda, securitisation increasing, and funding for women’s organisations and development being cut globally, a stronger EU commitment is much needed. Together with the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) and Equipop, we will take a closer look at the state of WPS during a roundtable on 3 November. Chloé Ridel, MEP, will chair the discussion on “Geofeminism and the WPS agenda: Lessons from the SWANA region”. Pathways to an inclusive peace Speakers from Southwest Asia and North Africa (SWANA) will reflect on the increasing violence and violations of international law in their region. They will look at the US’ and Israel’s efforts to redraw the map of the region by force, including annihilating Palestinian self-determination efforts. We will also discuss alternative policy strategies based on the legal instruments and political thinking that underpin the WPS agenda. These reflections will examine the EU’s role and how its actions can be a positive force for inclusive peace in the region.
